yahoo-objetos

Yahoo is developing a very interesting idea on how to develop search.  As it says Prabhakar Raghavan, head of Yahoo! Labs and Yahoo! Search Strategy, analyzing the type of search performed by people from their mobile phones, there is the concept of search based on objects.

These objects, whose internal structure will be composed mostly of media elements (images, videos) will be the result of each search, instead of the usual links. Behind this scheme seeks to provide a more “realistic” access to relevant information, especially for people who are not used to jump from link to link looking for exactly what they need.

Therefore, according to Raghavan, Yahoo is not going to focus primarily on the index page (which is well behind its competitor), but rather the creation of these related data sets. This will allow, if possible, find all the relevant information in one place, without leaving Yahoo.

For example, searching for Paris, we would have something like this:

yahooobj

While it’s true that we are not exactly looking for the Eiffel Tower, but it is very difficult to find someone to think of Paris without thinking about the Eiffel Tower. An example is made with a single word, which gives quite arbitrary, and it would be better to run the test with a more specific phrases. This works so great for searches related to travel, restaurants, movies, ie, the bulk coming from mobile devices.

Somehow, it seems to follow a similar scheme of  Google Squared, but showing a more targeted and transparent use of multimedia tools. Is an underlying danger in the way information is grouped together, because not all Internet users are seeking using the same word the same answers.

Undoubtedly, searches on the Web will never be the same. There are 3 schemes proposed by Google,Wolfram y ahora Yahoo. Which one will succeed?
