Many people this morning I was ready to begin his normal daily routine: wake up, yawn, go to the bathroom, take the laptop and start to twitter. Who tell me that twitter has not since the bathroom is a liar. But, oh surprise! our favorite service microbloging came down, but as we know, this was a DDoS attack, but … what is a DDoS attack?

A DDoS attack (Distributed Denial Of Service Attack) is a joint attack on dozens or even thousands of zombies machines forming a botnet. The attack is that the zombie network of computers sends multiplerequests to the server you want to attack, saturating the server, killing its available bandwidth and leavingout of service to all sites that depend on it, as happened today with Twitter.

But what other sites, especially latin americans, have been attacked?. For that, dear reader of Tecnodatum, I will refresh your memory.

Menéame

The attack in February 2008, caused several problems to Ricardo Galli, creator of this Latin Digg. I followed this case closely to see if it set a precedent in crime in Latin America. Ricardo Galli even got to talk to the suspects in the case. What most caught my attention was this letter written by crackers.

Dear meneame.net, who are we, and why do we write to you?

We are part of the network Denial of Service, largest in Latin America, lease, however, largest in Latin America. As you know, recently suffered an attack genbeta.com big, so big that occasion the datacenter, you wonder, why the attack is so great? The answer is simple, we own datacenter in Paraguay, one in foz iguazu, and a full rack in china, where can we send attacks connectivity very large, more than 1,000,000 Mbps, que tal? As a paramilitary attack of this nature? It is impossible, I will count on the fingers of my hands on the web that would not fall to these attacks. yahoo, hotmail, google, paypal, youtube, hi5, Citybank, the site of the FBI and NASA, and some other 4 or 5 more, and there it ends. Therefore, know that you can not escape this situation. At this time we are also attacking lohizo.com, blockoo.com, desadmite.com, that attack? I recently asked a number of webmaster work, and forgot to pay some money, now they suffer the consequence, no matter whether we leave or ganbeta.com takes note. Now we have other interests, we have seen you together meneame.net to move a lot of money, and we are quite tento. So if in the next few hours we send $ 7,000 by Western Union for 7 consecutive days (the maximum per day to send western union is $ 7,000) if you do not do that, your business alongside meneame.net weblogssl.com cease to function for life, because an attack may not stem from a more datacenter rack 2 from china, with over 1,000,000 Mbps of attack.
The data are to send the money:
Emiliano Fernandez
Address: 29 de Setiembre
Ciudad del Este, AltoParana
Country: Paraguay

If in the next 3 days does not reach the amount of money requested, will be destroyed all their web, keep in mind that this will cause more damage, so if people are smart, it would send the money, and we promise not to bother more. We have seen that money is moving, and we know that the good economy will not be affected by the dollar, which is not much money for you, so we know who sent the money, so, right? In 3 days we want the money, attacks began immediately, and if in 3 days is money, the attacks will be slowed, but if not send the money, attacks aumetaran increasingly, and more.
Once you have sent the money, we MTCN, NAME, CITY AND COUNTRY FROM WHERE TO SEND THE MONEY IS. If they inform any authority, and we learned from this, the consequences would be very large and fall thousands of affiliated web to you, beware of what they do.

Greetings

I guess Ricardo  - as I am, of course – was a man and managed to have its website up and is one of the most successful sites in Latin America.

Genbeta

For those who do not know Genbeta is a technology blog known in Spain. and precisely for that it was a victim too, in February 2008 of a DDoS attack by the same hackers who attacked Menéame. Currently, the site remains in operation. The attack to Genbeta was a warning of how fraudulent are some websites such as blockoo.com, scanmessenger.com, detectando.com, quienteadmite.info, checkmessenger.net and to disclose their techniques and phishing, causing the wrath of the crackers.

Boycottnovell

The anti-Novell site Boycottnovell, was also attacked this year. Its creator and advocate of Linux high and very anti-Microsoft, Roy Schestowitz, thinks that it may have been someone from inside Redmond.

In my opinion, I think this attack on Twitter is another example that the BIG BROTHER WANTS TO SHUT DOWN US ALL And no, I’m not kidding, I really  do think so.
