Who has not wondered how it would be like a celestial object hitting a planet? Hollywood has always liked things crash against the Earth -like there were no more planets- so our references are somewhat limited.

Today we have something more: this photo released by NASA where you can see the scars of the collision product of an object on the surface of the red giant.

It is presumed that a comet struck Jupiter exactly 15 years after another comet did it: The Shoemaker-Levy 9 and during the celebrations for the anniversary of the Apolo XI.

For my own good, I hope not to be the only one who finds a smiley in the picture.
